Birth of a blog

So… what made the two of us want to create this blog? Well for starters, the pair of us have spent a lot of time hanging out as single gals on the town. At the beginning of each week, we anticipate our weekly (and sometimes bi-weekly) happy hour outings but had trouble locating the local “hot spots.” Being girls who enjoyed good food, drinks, ambience, service, and of course, good (male) company, we sought out any online resources that could lead us in the right direction. The resources were scarce and nondescript at best, so after numerous experimentations and visits to happy hours around Orange County, we were led to creating this blog! We are now dedicated to not only seeking out great happy hour spots that will be rated on multiple factors, but also hoping to assist those single gals in finding their perfect (or almost perfect) happy hour mate! Please feel free to add your experiences or helpful information as a comment.

Z'tejas

Danielle
Z’tejas seems to draw a crowd with their good happy hour deal and awesome patio area. I’ve been before when hardly a seat was available on the patio or at the bar. It must be Murphy’s Law because I swear there were fewer people out than I’ve seen before! It was a nice day outside so the patio was perfect, and the heat lamps were on in preparation for the sun setting. We ordered the tejas trio (chips with salsa, guacamole, and queso dip) and green chile pulled pork nachos. Cornbread is served with meals. The food was great for happy hour food—it was what was expected. The drink special was $1 off wells and margaritas, and there were many margaritas to choose from including “skinny” which I love. Again, a “0” for s-factor. There were no men in sight this day other than a few gay men, a dad with 3 kids, and significant others, all of which I must pass.

I love coming to the South Coast Plaza and never realized where Z’Tejas was located until this happy hour quest.  The restaurant was removed from the foot traffic of the mall and there were plenty of parking spaces nearby.  The patio area was quite spacious and plenty of seating accommodations early in the evening.  The server was polite and very attentive.  I selected the Pomegranate ‘Rita and must admit I was not the least bit disappointed. Fantastic drink—pricey for happy hour but delicious! The food was not too bad in particular the Tejas Trio but I would say not flavorful enough for me. However, our waitress came out with a skillet of corn bread- of which I heard from friends was the restaurant’s bread substitution- and I think I may have almost consumed the entirety.  I have tasted plenty of more appetizing corn bread but I like the concept of having a skillet of corn bread in lieu of rolls or loaves of bread and it was a tasty complement to our appetizers.  We stayed for a couple of hours and watched as the crowd rolled in.  It was definitely a mix of people, from groups of singles and couples to plenty of families.  Unfortunately, this was probably not the place to find any S-factor individuals but it is a low-key environment that is likely a nice getaway for people after a long day of shopping.
